1 in 5 new Notebooks will fail in their first year due to accidental damage.
Most of these will be due to accidental drops or liquid spills.
In the real world, accidental damage is the number one cause of product failure. According to an independent study, 18 percent of notebook computers are physically damaged and returned for repair in the first year of ownership. Of these damaged notebook computers, over 60% are damaged from accidental drops and over 30% are damaged from liquid spills.
Over the past few years many people have asked me for mobile computers that will withstand the daily rigours of everyday life out on the road, in their vehicle, or wherever their needs take them, but at an affordable price. There is some very good technology being produced that will take the knocks, but at a price that cannot be justified by most.
For those of you who relish in extreme conditions like desert combat or deep in the jungles of South America, then a fully rugged device from the likes of General Dynamics is fine. However, most of us don’t really need the level of ruggedness, or the price tag that goes with it. What we really need is something that maintains all the performance and weight characteristics we have become accustomed to, and at a realistic price.
Recently I have been communicating with Twinhead, a large manufacturer from Taiwan with over 18 years in the game and have a solid reputation on a global basis, and I have discovered their That’s why Twinhead developed the DURABOOK line of notebook computers. DURABOOK models feature a rugged design that delivers added protection from normal everyday mishaps for your notebook computer’s vital components – the hard disk drive, LCD display, motherboard, optical drive and battery.
All DURABOOK S15S Series systems meet simulated US Military and European Committee rugged feature standards to ensure their durability. These standard test measurements include:
DROP TEST - Simulated MIL STD 810F, Method 516.4, Procedure IV, 26 drops of 36 inches (29 inches for all 15″ DURABOOK systems) onto plywood over concrete with unit off and display closed.
VIBRATION TEST - Simulated MIL STD 810F, Method 514.4, Procedure I, Category 10, Fig 16&17/ASTM 4169, Truck Transport 11.5.2 Random test, Assurance Level II.
Along with these great rugged features, DURABOOK models are built with high performance components and a slim and lightweight design that allows for true functionality and mobility.

What would you expect to pay for a seni-rugged Notebook like this? $5000 +?
You can order them for less than $3,000 + GST, depending upon specification and quantity.
